If you are planning to get fit this year but find it difficult to keep your motivation going, why not have a go at some different activities to keep you interested. Here are just 5 new things you could try for 2012.
1. Body Conditioning
If you are looking for a class which is less intense but will still exercise your whole body, body conditioning is the class for you. Using a number of different pieces of equipment including hand weights, resistance tubes and exercise mats, you can tone and firm your whole body. This makes a nice break from the fast paced exercise you may be used to.
2. Outdoor Fitness
Many gyms and health clubs are now offering more and more outdoor activities such as tennis and mountain bike hire. This is great for exercise and makes a nice break from the gym or exercise classes. Being inside constantly makes you more suseptable to coughs, colds and illness as germs are passed around through the air conditioning and heating of buildings. Getting outside makes your body work harder as it cools itself down or heats itself up. Also, after being stuck in an office all day, many people find it more fun outside.
3. Zumba
This is a fairly new exercise trend and is popping up at gyms across the country. It is a mix of salsa, latino and interval training. It is fast paced and exciting, combining dance with exercise. We are currently offering Zumba classes at our Gym Redhill and non-members can join in too, so bring some friends – it’s a very sociable activity.
4. Yogalates
This is a cross between the very poplar Yoga and Pilates exercises. You can learn to train your body and mind whilst improving your core balance which in turn helps improve your muscle tone. This is a great way to improve your inner strength and does not require any fast paced movements. Very relaxing.
5. Personal Training
If you struggle to maintain your motivation, why not consider personal training? By hiring someone else to help you, you can concentrate on getting fit without having to work out how. Personal Trainers build you a bespoke fitness regime and you can arrange to meet them as often as you like. It will also help to keep you motivated as you always have someone to talk to about your issues and concerns and you can easily track your progress.
